Apply the initiator to the metal and the adhesive to the plastic.
Metal to plastic bonding.
There are metal adhesives that bond some plastics and plastic adhesives that bond some metals.
There are several types of structural acrylic adhesives and not all bond metal to plastic.
Before attempting to glue metal to plastic it s important to know what types of adhesives can accomplish the task.
For selection purposes.
Here are my two favorites.
Plastics that you generally can glue.
Unlike plastic glue cyanoacrylate glue does not melt the plastic of the surface but only creates a strong layer of hardened adhesive once it dries.
Not all adhesives are alike wood glue and school glue for instance are designed for porous materials and would not work well on either metal or plastic.
Cyanoacrylate glue more commonly known as super glue is the easiest option when dealing with metal and plastics.
Flexible waxy polyethylene and polypropylene such as hdpe pete most buckets cups food or soda or cleaner bottles.
Permabond ta4246 with initiator 46 is a no mix adhesive and initiator.
Ideally the coefficient of thermal expansion for the adhesive itself would be negligible.
Sand both the metal and plastic first to rough up the surface so the glue will grab.
35 n mm 5100 psi.
The specific substrates as well as the surface condition of the substrates the types of stresses on the bond and the environment the bond must withstand help in selecting the best adhesive.
See the high bond strengths attainable below.
Hard plastics like acrylic abs polystyrene vinyl pvc.
The biggest advantage of super glue is that it s very easy to apply.
